Jinn Projects — Help Centre & Getting Started Guide
Jinn Projects is a free, web-based client project management tool for agencies, studios and freelancers — available at jinn.report with no installation required. Use this guide to learn about projects, tasks, files, comments, search and more.
Browse the sections below or email us at support@jinn.report.
Getting Started
Jinn Projects has two portals: an Admin portal for your agency or studio, and a Client portal for each of your clients. When you sign up, you receive an admin account. You then create client accounts and invite clients to see only their own projects.
How to create your account
- Click Get started free on the homepage.
- Enter your full name, work email, and a password (8+ characters).
- Click Create my account. A verification email will be sent.
- Open the email and click Verify email to activate your account.
- Return to jinn.report/login and sign in.
Your first steps after login
- Create your first project from the Dashboard using + New Project.
- Add a client account under Clients → Add Client.
- Assign the client to the project so they can log into their portal and see it.
- Invite team members under Team → Add member.
Projects
Projects are the top-level containers for all work. Each project belongs to one client and can contain unlimited tasks, files, and comments.
Project statuses
- Active — work is ongoing.
- On Hold — temporarily paused.
- Completed — delivered; shown with a 100% progress bar in green.
Progress bar
The progress bar is calculated automatically from the percentage of tasks marked as done within the project.
Stencils
Stencils are reusable task templates attached to a project. Create a stencil once and apply the same set of tasks to any new project — great for repeatable engagements (e.g. "Website Launch Checklist").
Tasks
Tasks live inside projects and track individual units of work. Admins create and manage tasks; clients can see task progress and comment on tasks assigned to their project.
Task statuses
- To Do • In Progress • In Review • Done • Blocked
Files tab (on a task)
Each task has a Files tab. You can upload files directly to a task — they don't need to be attached to a comment. Drag-and-drop or click to select. Supported types: images, PDFs, ZIP, Office documents, and more.
Links tab (on a task)
Add external URLs to a task using the Links tab. Give the link a label (e.g. "Figma prototype") and paste the URL. Links appear clickable in the task detail panel.
Files & Documents
The Files page shows all files uploaded across all projects. You can filter by project and download any file.
Uploading files
- From the Files page: click Upload File or drag a file anywhere onto the page.
- From a task detail: use the Files tab or attach a file to a comment.
- From a comment: click the paperclip icon in the comment composer.
Downloading files
Click any filename in the files list or task detail to download. Only authenticated users with access to that project can download files.
Team & Roles
Team members are internal staff at your agency. Roles (Project Lead, Developer, Designer, PM, etc.) are custom and can be added or renamed under Team → Roles.
Assigning team members to projects
Open a project and use Manage team to pick which team members work on it. They will see the project's tasks in their task queue.
Client access vs. team access
Clients can only see their own projects and tasks. Team members can see any project they are assigned to. Admin users see everything across all clients.
Global Search
The search bar in the top navigation bar searches across projects, tasks, files, comments, profiles, and help topics simultaneously.
How to use it
- Press / from anywhere on the page to focus the search bar instantly.
- Type at least 2 characters — results appear after a short debounce.
- Use ↑ ↓ arrow keys to navigate result rows and Enter to open.
- Press Escape to close the dropdown.
- Recent searches are saved in your browser and shown when you click into the empty search bar.
What clients can search
Client accounts only see results from their own projects — they cannot discover data belonging to other clients under any circumstance.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Press ? (Shift + /) on any page inside the platform to open the live Keyboard Shortcuts reference modal.
Common shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| / | Focus global search |
| ? | Open keyboard shortcuts reference |
| G then D | Go to Dashboard |
| G then P | Go to Projects / Tasks |
| N | Create new (project, task, client…) |
| J / K | Navigate table rows down / up |
| Ctrl + S | Save active form |
| Escape | Close modal / dropdown / panel |
Shortcuts are disabled when typing inside a form field. Navigation shortcuts (G+D, G+P, etc.) work with a 1-second chord window.
Account & Profile
Updating your profile
Go to Profile in the sidebar. You can update your display name and password. Your email address is fixed to the one used at registration.
Changing your avatar
On the Profile page, click your current avatar to upload a custom photo (JPEG or PNG, max 2 MB). Alternatively, choose one of the preset avatar colours. Your avatar appears next to all your comments across every project.
Dark mode
Click the moon/sun icon in the top-right of any page. Your preference is saved to your browser automatically.
Forgot password
On the Sign in page, click Forgot password?. Enter your email and we'll send you a reset link valid for 2 hours.
Notifications
The bell icon in the top navigation shows your unread notification count. Notifications are generated when:
- A comment is posted on a task you are associated with.
- A file is uploaded to a project you are assigned to.
- A task is assigned to you.
In addition to in-app notifications, all of the above events also trigger an automatic email to the relevant recipients.
Go to Notifications in the sidebar to see all notifications. Use the Unread / Read filter tabs to manage them.
Comments
Comments are threaded discussions on tasks. Both admin team members and clients can comment. Comments support file attachments and external links.
Email notifications
When a comment is posted, every person associated with that task — the assignee, the client's team, and all admin and agency staff — receives an automatic email notification with the comment content and a link back to the task.
Sorting comments
Use the sort buttons above the comment thread to switch between Newest first and Oldest first.
Avatars in comments
Your avatar (or your initials if no photo is set) is shown next to your comments. Update your avatar from your Profile page to see it reflected everywhere.
